Many people wonder: What is hypnosis? Can I be hypnotized? According to the American Psychological Association, hypnosis is a cooperative interaction in which the participant responds to the suggestions of the hypnotist. Hypnosis has become well-known thanks to stage hypnosis where people are prompted to perform unusual or ridiculous actions. Unlike stage hypnosis which is used for entertainment purposes, hypnotherapy is utilized for therapeutic purposes. From a research perspective, hypnotherapy as a technique has also been clinically proven to provide medical and therapeutic benefits, most notably in the reduction of pain, anxiety and elimination of phobias to name a few.
